Smells Like Zines poster

Zines are the pop-tarts of literature.  Homebrew issues that expound the independent, the underground and the bizarre. It’s publishing with DIY ethics. Smells Like Zines distro is named after that smell of  wet ink and glue during a marathon cut and paste session.

Smells Like Zines is a Toowoomba / Queensland-based Artist Run Initiative. It started in my bedroom at home in 2010, before growing and developing into a zine physical shop @ 4/203 Margaret Street (Across from the Tatt’s). Open since 27th March 2011, the shop has seen artist residencies and exhibitions, zine launches and acoustic nights within its walls, with much more to come. Come up for a visit when you’re next passing by to get in on the action !

I’m passionate about setting up mini zine hubs in ARI’s,  library’s, archives and alternative spaces across Australia and beyond.

While I’m on the road in October, the hugely talented Kylie Ellis and Ester De Boer have transformed my shop into a joint studio and exhibition space. Come up and check out the works in progress and grab a few zines for the ride home.

8th October: Zine Fair @ 4ZZZ 10:30-2:30pm (Brisbane)

19th October – 19th November: QLD BIZOO Book Launch Road trip from Toowoomba to Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, Longreach, Blackall, Roma, Dalby and back home !
